IT'S TIME TO FORGET ME, 2020
Emma Brice
This work responds to Simon Reynolds’ observation that ideas explored in current popular culture are regurgitations of past ideas. It seems that a reach for nostalgia is ever-present because new ideas are unachievable.
It’s time to forget me unpicks and follows a generic formula of the pop song. Rather than appropriating pre-existing media content, this work is unique in that Brice composed her song with reference to her pop influences. ITTFM decodes videos of performances in attempt to place pop and the ‘content generation’ against itself. Brice questions the significance of her creation in a highly saturated content culture.
