UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, 2020

Chloe Portier-Tock

Up close and personal is a series of intimate photographs depicting a complicated relationship with clothing and an exploration of identity and consumerism.

This piece features my most memorable items of clothing in order of events, each telling a story. The way the clothes are hung signify some particular memory, too personal to share. The audience are open to wonder about their hidden meanings.

The word 'consumerism' makes me think of clothes consuming us and becoming a part of our identity. Consumerism has taken up a large part of our lives that I feel we have lost touch with everything else important. We only see the clothes for what they are, not past memories or traumas.
