Lei Payumo

Through a restrictive approach to experimentation that binds Lei's actions to specific rules, he manufactures an artistic product based on the results of his initiated discourse and participation with other long-distance communities. Lei wishes to involve individuals across the world in his creative process, aiming to educate and interest them on a variety of philosophical, political, and artistic ideas.

Thirteen Mimics is a selection of thirteen videos dealing with various topics such as anthropocentrism, artistic practice, and various political antagonisms. Lei has created these videos in response to conversations and debates held online with individuals that oppose his own personal ideologies, restricting the nature of his videos to respond only to the interests and arguments of his interlocutors. Through criticising oft-conservative ideas while simultaneously emulating the interests of his interviewees, Lei fosters a strange antagonism that bizarrely hovers between mockery and good humour - a peculiar strategy that aims to dissolve barriers of opposition to briefly share fleeting moments of camaraderie and productive discourse.
