In our everyday, the ordinary is often looked passed. Jess’s practice engages what is often seen to be mundane, finding the beauty in our normality’s. She feels it is important to use her skills as a visual artist to highlight simple aspects of life, making the spectator of her work truly engaged with the extraordinariness of the ordinariness of the day to day.

Jess has lived in the Sincil Bank area of Lincoln most of her university career, so it only seems fitting for her final project here to be based on the streets and people she has been surrounded by. Many don’t see the beauty in Sincil Bank; however, Jess uses her practice to peel away it’s rough exteriors, engaging with the community to highlight what truly makes it a wonderful place. Through digital photography and analogue darkroom processes, the diversity, architecture and humble nature of the area is exposed, diverting from the troubles of Sincil Bank and helping the community re-find its beauty.
