Diving into the depths of social media, Sanby has conceptualised the power of how we observe each other’s visual appearances through text. As she allows the audience to experience the thoughts of the public through text, she hopes to bring ideas of self-reflection in terms of how we observe other people with our unconscious bias. Sanby uses manipulation by exaggerating the text sourced from participants and the public to create text-identity-portraits. Presenting these perspectives through Instagram posts, she also subtly responds to the impact of how Covid-19 has forced the public to connect through social media.
