Niamh Rooney performs her original work, SENTIMENT.escapism [variations], in which she explores her surroundings by connecting to them through her compositions. Rooney is keen to explore her relationship with public and private space. Each of these variations represents a specific room in the house she is currently staying. This work explores Rooney’s relationship with mental health, her relationship with her past childhood trauma in a school environment, and her tendency to seek escapism and self-isolate from her post-traumatic stress. Rooney’s performance hopes to confront escapism and coping mechanisms by taking over existing private space and opening it up to the public realm.
