From washing hands to removing makeup, Cordelia Clarkson’s practice explores the processes of these everyday mundane activities; celebrating the beauty within them. Cordelia’s work is conceptual but pays attention to visual aesthetics.

Cordelia’s degree show piece will be a solo performance exploring the intimacy/relationship she has with familiar everyday objects linked to her practice: makeup wipes.

Cordelia Clarkson’s piece, hanging out with my faces, is documentation of a solo performance which explored the intimacy and relationship she had, with the everyday object: used make up wipes, whilst she was in self quarantine due to the Covid-19 crisis. The digital documentation shows a selection of scenarios where she was using the objects constructed from the used make up wipes: a pillow/cushion and a blanket as comfort images. She was interested in using a ‘dirty’ and ‘unhygienic’ object as a form of comfort. Cordelia’s piece played around with the juxtaposition of associating the objects to comfort with an unusual relationship to the makeup wipes; it is usually disregarded after removing make up.
